Car theft on the rise from car key jammers
The Gardaí have issued a warning to motorists after car thieves used signal blockers to steal from cars in Westmeath recently.  The transmitters, which are easy to buy online, can be used to disrupt signals from your car keys fobs, meaning unsuspecting motorists believe their cars to be locked when in fact they are wide open. This means the way is  clear for thieves to help themselves to any valuables in your car, and even take the car itself. These low-powered jammers can have a range of about 70m, meaning that a whole car park level could be targeted.T..
Financial costs of agricultural crime is an unacceptable burden
ICSA president Patrick Kent has recently said that, “The financial costs of agricultural crime is an unacceptable burden and one that cannot be written off as part and parcel of life in rural Ireland.” Mr Kent was speaking following the publication of the second tranche of ICSA’s Agricultural Crime Survey undertaken with Waterford Institute of Technology. The focus of this tranche is the Financial Costs of Agricultural Crime in Ireland. He also said  that “We now have proof that agricultural crime is hitting farmers’ pockets at a time when most a..

It is estimated that delays from congestion on highways, streets, and transit systems throughout the world result in productivity losses in the hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Other negative effects of congestion include property damage, personal injuries, increased air pollution, and inefficient fuel consumption. The availability and accuracy of the Global Positioning System (GPS) offers increased efficiencies and safety for vehicles using highways, streets, and mass transit systems. Many of the problems associated with the routing and dispatch of commercial vehicles is significa..

GPS Tracking Applications for the Marine Industry
The Global Positioning System (GPS) has changed the way the world operates. This is especially true for marine operations, including search and rescue. GPS provides the fastest and most accurate method for mariners to navigate, measure speed, and determine location. This enables increased levels of safety and efficiency for mariners worldwide. It is important in marine navigation for the ship's officer to know the vessel's position while in open sea and also in congested harbors and waterways. While at sea, accurate position, speed, and heading are needed to ensure the vessel reache..
GPS Tracking for Agriculture
The development and implementation of precision agriculture or site-specific farming has been made possible by combining the Global Positioning System (GPS) and geographic information systems (GIS). These technologies enable the coupling of real-time data collection with accurate position information, leading to the efficient manipulation and analysis of large amounts of geospatial data. GPS-based applications in precision farming are being used for farm planning, field mapping, soil sampling, tractor guidance, crop scouting, variable rate applications, and yield mapping. GPS allows farmers to..
Solar Storm Leaves GPS Service Intact
The solar storm that occurred in early March 2012 disrupted satellite communications and forced airlines to reroute some flights. But so far, no major GPS problems have been reported as a result of the event. The U.S. network of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS), which monitors GPS daily from over 1,800 locations, observed only slight changes to GPS reception in some parts of Alaska on March 7 and 9. Learn more about CORS... Solar activity can distort the GPS signals as they pass through the Earth's ionosphere, causing accuracy errors. In addition, intense radio bursts from ..
GPS Darts to Catch Evaders in Car Chases By Lance WinslowPolice high-speed chases often end in disaster when the suspect crashes into another car, runs over a pedestrian or hits a tree and kills themselves. Likewise, often very expensive police cars paid for by the taxpayer are destroyed during car chases and innocent lives are put into danger for no real reason. Some of this can be prevented; say GPS research scientists. How so you ask?Well, some top universities that specialize in GPS systems have created GPS darts, which can be shot out of a gun and they will stick into the suspect..
